(2018-02-13) Alawi, Hamdan; Aryani, Netti; Asiah, Nur
The effect of three protein levels of commercial diet on the growth performance, gonad maturation and fecundity of first maturity of Indonesian leaffish (Pritolepis grooti) was conducted in 54 liters recirculation aquaria system for 10 months rearing period. Eight-week-old artificial spawned Indonesian leaffish katung (Pristolepis grooti Bleeker)) fry with an average weight (SD) of 0.560(0.116) g were fed 5% BW three times a day with commercial diets 18, 28 and 38% Protein. Fish fed on 38% protein diet showed better growth and feed conversion ratio than those fed on 28 and 18% diets. Males matured earlier than females: the firstmature males were recorded when they were 5 months old, whereas the females matured after 6 month rearing period. The mean percentage of mature female fish rose with increasing feed protein level. It was also found that the percentage of mature fish rose with the increasing fish age and size. More than 70% males matured at the age of 6 months in all diet. After 10 months rearing period, the percentage of matured female fed on 38% protein was 100% while those fed on 16% protein was 25%. Smallest size at spawning of males and females was 8.5 cm (23 g) and 13 cm (65 g), respectively, and dietary protein levels influenced the size of fish at first maturity. It was found that the protein level significantly effected the gonado somatic index (GSI). Fecundity increased with increasing dietary protein level. The relative fecundity (eggs /g or cm female) was higher at the higher dietary protein level.

Asian Catfish (Hemibagrus wyckii ) is an important fish having both food and a high price in the market. These species are categorized as a carnivorous freshwater finfish native in Indonesia and is vulnerable to endangered status. This study was carried out to identify the morphometric characteristics of Hemibagrus wyckii (H. wyckii ) from the Koto Panjang Reservoir, Kampar Kanan and Kampar Kiri rivers. Materials and Methods: Twenty-five fish were collected from each sampling site. The morphometric characteristics were analyzed using the truss morphometric method. Twenty-nine characteristics were measured to obtain the morphometric characteristics of this species. Morphometric data of H. wyckii were analyzed using one-way ANOVA (SPSS version 17.0). Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to evaluate the relationship between different factors and morphometric characteristics. The distribution across different habitats was measured by component canonical analysis (CCA) and genetic distance was analyzed by hierarchical cluster. Results: The average standard lengths of H. wyckii from the Koto Panjang Reservoir, Kampar Kanan and Kampar Kiri rivers (Mean±SD) were 428±15.78, 432.52±66.11 and 425.86±50.41 mm, respectively. Twenty-nine morphometric characteristics were measured. There was a 68.96% difference obtained in samples collected at the Koto Panjang Reservoir and Kampar Kanan river. There was a 95.55% difference obtained in the Koto Panjang Reservoir, Kampar Kiri river and a 100% difference obtained in the Kampar Kanan and Kampar Kiri rivers. The main differences in morphometric characteristics included inter orbital distance, length of adipose-fin base, predorsal length, length of front dorsal fin-front pelvic and depth of caudal peduncle. The Mahalanobis distance between fish from the Koto Panjang Reservoir and Kampar Kanan river demonstrated that both types originated from a single population. Conclusion: It was concluded that more favorable morphometric characteristics of H. wyckii were found in the Kampar Kanan river compared to those from the Koto Panjang Reservoir and Kampar Kiri river.

(2018-02-13) Aryani, Netti; Azrita, Azrita; Mardiah, Ainul; Syandri, Hafrijal
Aquaculture feeding rate is an important factor affecting the growth of giant gourami. The aims of the study were to investigate the effect of different feeding rates on the growth, and carcass composition of giant gourami (initial weight 14.17±0.15 g and length 9.88±1.11 cm). The nutrition content of the diet was a cross energy of 3,340.50 kcal/kg, made up of 30% crude protein, 7% crude lipid, 6% crude fiber, 12% ash, and 12% moisture as a percentage of fish body weight, with three replicates per treatment. Fish were fed three times per day at 09:00, 14:00, and 18:00. The experiment was carried out for 120 days. Each month, 30 fish were removed from each of the floating net cages to be measured and weighed. The biomass of fish was calculated, and the amount of feed was adjusted. The feeding rate significantly (p< 0.05) influenced the final fish weight, net weight gain (NWG), average daily growth (ADG), specific growth rate (SGR), and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The maximum growth of giant gourami was found at 6% feeding rate. However, the best feed conversion ratio (1.34±0.18) was obtained at the 4% feeding rate. The carcass composition (crude protein and crude lipid) of giant gourami with different feeding rates showed a significant increase (p<0.05) after 120 days of the experiment. Based on growth performance, feed efficiency, and carcass composition, a 6% feeding rate showed the best result for the growth of giant gourami in Maninjau Lake.

    (2018-02-13) Aryani, Netti; Indra, Suharman
A study to determine the effect of increasing levels of dietary protein on green catfish (Hemibagrus nemurus), was carried out. Four isocaloric semi-purified diets containing 20%, 27%, 32%, and 37% dietary protein were used. Broodstock performance was evaluated based on growth parameters, reproductive parameters, and larvae production of female broodstock. Results showed that while the 20%, 27%, 32% and 37% protein produced the lowest specific growth rate (SGR) values, there was significant difference between 20%, 27%, 32% and 37% dietary treatments. The 20% dietary treatment also displayed longest time matured gonads and lowest of somatic ovi index and relative fecundity. Larvae production was highest from females fed with 32% and 37% protein, followed by the 27% protein while the diet containing 20% protein produced lowest number of larvae. Based on our results, we suggest that a minimum of 32% protein be included in the diet of female green catfish broodstock

(2017-10-01) Mariana; Felix, Feliatra; Sukendi, Sukendi; Nasution, Syafrudin
Mangrove forest act as natural carbon stores, but the carbon will release if the trees were felled and the area were deforested. The amount of carbon stored within an area are varies according to the type of the vegetations, so it is need to develop the low carbon stock areas. Mangrove is one of the ecosystem’s key in climate changes as the carbon’s storage. Most of areas in Kuala Indragiri are low-lying areas (93.31%), such as, regional stream sediment, peat swamp areas with soil (peat), brackish forest areas (mangrove). Some of the area approximately 0-3 meters above sea level. The research design is the explorative research, by using nested quadrate method. There are 5 locations of carbon stocks sampling in Kuala Indragiri coastal: Sapat as station 1, Tanjung Lajau as station 2, Tanjung Melayu as station 3, Sei Bela as station 4 and Sei Buluh as station 5. Each station has three line transects consisting three plots of each transect. The total plots are 45 in each determined mangroves land. The methods followed the procedures developed by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) for mangrove forests. Based on the finding, mangrove vegetation in the Kuala Indragiri coastal consisted of fourteen species. In this study, the researcher developed a general allometric equation to estimate the individual tree biomass and soil carbon content. The finding showed that the estimation of the carbon stock in the whole mangrove forest in Kuala Indragiri coastal: the average ground mass C stocks at each observed station were estimated to be 767.28 ton/ha (trees strata), 92.84 ton/ha (belta strata) and average soil carbon at each station to be 492 ton/ha respectively. estimation of mangrove forest’s carbon stock at above ground biomass and soil biomass in Kuala Indragiri coastal Riau province – Indonesia totally to be 1.352,31 Ton/Ha.
