Hydrazone is a versatile of organic compounds with the structure R1C=N-NHR2. Hydrazones containing an azomethine -NHN=CH- group which is known to possess diverse biological activities such as anticancer and antitumor. The addition of fluoro substituents to the aromatic ring has been shown to improve the pharmacological properties of hydrazone compounds. Novel compound N'1,N'3-bis((E,Z)-2-fluorobenzyliden)malonohydrazide (DB-2F) was synthesized via condensation reaction of malonohydrazide and 2-fluorobenzaldehyde with glacial acetic acid as catalyst. Synthesis of the compound used stirring and heating (reflux) at 50-60oC. The purity of the compound was determined using TLC, melting point, and HPLC. The structure of synthesized compound was confirmed by UVand FTIR spectroscopy studies. The yield of the synthesis DB-2F compound was 59.73%. The toxicity of DB-2F compound was evaluated by Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method with shrimp larvae Artemia salina Leach. The result of the test showed DB-2F compound is toxic with LC50 = 175.792 μg/mL.en_US
