Abstract
This research explains about the importance of South Africa to decide import quota
against China s textile product. In 2006, South Africa and China concluded a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) on Promoting Bilateral Trade and Economic Co-operation. The MoU
included an annexure limiting imports of 31 categories of clothing and textile products from
China through a quota system to protect domestic industry. This decision caused since 2001
China s textile product was dominate in South Africa s market. The import s volume on textile
and clothing product have been increase every year and make South African textile domestic
product on worstly position because at the same time job losses of the textile industry shows
increase significantly.This article shows that the dominate of China s textile product make
development of South Africa s textile industry on stagnant position because many job losses
happen and several of domestic textile company are collapse permanently.
