Abstract

The objective of this study were to determine in-vitro α-amylase inhibitory activities of aqueous extracts (infusa) from medicinal plants, i.e., garlic (Allium sativum L.), mangkokan leaves (Nothopanax scutellarium Merr.), and temu giring (Curcuma heyneana Val. & V) in their fresh and dried samples. Inhibition of α-amylase enzymes was determined by DNS method, and the absorbance was measured by microplate reader. Acarbose was used as positive control. The results showed that all samples were potential inhibitors for α-amylase. Activities of 4 extracts were not significantly different from acarbose (93.89 + 0.02), i.e., infusa of mangkokan fresh leaves (88.62 + 5.04); infusa of mangkokan dried leaves (91.64 + 1.17); infusa of fresh temu giring (76.05 + 11.84); and infusa of dried temu giring (90.46 + 2.67).
