Abstract
Forests are natural resources that are very potential in supporting flora and fauna diversity. One of the resource in the forest is soil surface insect. The conversion of forest threatens the existence of soil surface insects in an area. The purpose of this study was to study the diversity of soil surface insects and soil chemical physic factors that influence the existence of soil surface insects in Larangan Adat Ghimbo Potai Kenagarian Rumbio Forest. This research was carried out in January 2017. Insect collection used the pifall trap method for 72 hours. The results showed that the diversity of soil surface insect in secondary forest consisted of 9 orders, 17 families, 29 species and 1839 individuals. Diversity index in secondary forest is 1,458 and classified in medium category. The evenness index 0.997 is included in the even category.
