Abstract

This study aims to determine the water quality and carrying capacity of pollution load Batang Kuranji River in the upstream, middle, and downstream. This researchis descriptive quantitative parameters of temperature, pH, BOD, COD, NO2, NO3, TSS, E-coli and DO. Determination of these parameters because the source of activities that potentially degrade the quality of river water is an activity that produces domestic waste and household industries that produce organic waste water. Since rivers in Padang City have not been classified, the test results compared with class II river water quality analysis refers to PP No.82/2001. Temperatures in the Batang Kuranji River have a tendency to rise from upstream to downstream. In 2013-2017 the temperature passes the quality standard at all observation points (30o - 33oC). The BOD content in all observation stations has passed the quality standard (3.2 mg/l - 23.6 mg/l), with peak in 2012 (23.6 mg/l), COD concentrations upstream and midstream between 2014 -2016 according to the quality standard, but by 2017 the COD concentration has increased in all locations exceeding the quality standard. Upstream and downstream TSS concentrations meet the quality standard, while the downstream TSS passes the quality standard (> 50 mg/l). The DO concentration at observation station 1 - 6 shows good quality in 2011 - 2015. But it exceeds the quality standard in 2016 and 2017. This research can be used to improve the quality of Batang Kuranji River.
