Abstract
Sawn wood with large dimension and high grade are more
difficult to be • found in the market due to decreasing in stock
dimension. Indonesia has alternative trees wich sources oil palm
trunk; however, it has low quality and limited in usage. To obtain a
better performance of oil palm trunk, the tree needs to combine with
high-grade wood to produce glue laminated timber. This research
objective is to produce glue laminated lumber OPT that combine with
others commercial timber (this research used Rengas (Gluta L.
Anacardianceae)). Preliminary testing was done to obtain physical
and mechanical properties of clear specimen on OPT, testing method
base on IS0-1975 standard. Glue laminated lumber specimens had 40
cm in wide, 4 em in depth and 80 em in length; they were made in five
models. Each layer of lumber glued with thermoselling urea
formaldehyde adhesive at pressure 0.9 MPa for 10 hours pressing
time. The testing result of physical and mechanical OPT was of low
density and strength class V up to III. Glue laminated lumber shows all
products have interesting performance.
