Abstract
This study aims to determine the capacity and efficiency of activated carbon after going
through the regeneration process. The activated carbon was used to adsorb metallic
mercury (II) and then rinsed with HNO3 solution. The rinsed adsorbent was reused in the
mercury metal adsorption process. The filtrate resulted from adsorption and regeneration
were analyzed using (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy) ICPOES.
The adsorption capacity of white jabon fruit carbon before regeneration is 99.80%.
In this study, variations of HNO3 desorption solution were used; 0.5 M: 1.0 M; 1.5 M and
2.0 M to obtain a desorption capacity of 0.6588 mg/g , 0.66215 mg/g, 0.67248 mg/g ,
0.69114 mg/g with a regeneration percentage of 69.34% ; 69.69% ; 70.77% ; 72.74%,
respectively. The desorption ability increased as the concentration of the desorbing
solution increased.
