Abstract:
The Sail River and Kampar Kiri River have different ecosystem characteristics
that affect the growth of fish living in those area. The growth pattern may be reflected in
the otolith’s growth ring pattern. This research aimed to understand the growth pattern
present in the otilith of Notopters notopterus. The fish was captured using a cast net and
fishing nets. Fifty five fishes were captured (25 fishes from the River Sail and 30 fishes
from Kampar Kiri River). The otolith growth and its ring pattern were checked using a
binocular microscope. Results shows that dark growth ring pattern in the fish from the
Sail River and Kampar Kiri River had almost the same number of dark ring. Water
quality in the sampling area was observed to be good and it might be sufficent to
support the life of N. notopterus.
