Abstract
Hydrazone is a versatile compound in drug design for the synthesis of heterocyclic
compounds with different biological activities because it has two active centers, namely
two nitrogen atoms and two carbon atoms. The combination of hydrazones with other
functional groups produces compounds with unique physical and chemical properties. The
addition of a fluoro group in a compound can have a significant effect and can increase the
activity of the compound. Some of the pharmacological activities of hydrazone compounds
include antimicrobial, antiviral, anticancer and others. The aim of this study was to
synthesize the compound N'1,N'3-bis((E, Z)-4-fluorobenzyliden) malonohydrazide which
has a good toxicity value. The compound N'1,N'3-bis((E,Z)-4-fluorobenzyliden)
malonohydrazide was synthesized by condensation reaction between malonohydrazide and
4-fluoro benzaldehyde using glacial acetic acid as catalyst. Synthesis of compound N'1,N'3-
bis((E, Z)-4-fluorobenzyliden) malonohydrazide using reflux with heating and stirring
method. The purity test for this compound was determined using the TLC test, melting
point determination and HPLC analysis. The structure of the compound was identified
using spectroscopic analysis of UV and FTIR. The yield obtained from the synthesis was
67.79%. The toxicity test of the compound was carried out using the Brine Shrimp Lethality

Test (BSLT) method and the results showed that this compound was toxic with an LC value
of50 = 125.02 g/mL.
