Abstract
Indonesia is known as a country that has many ethnicities with a variety of custom and
cultures, as well as local wisdom. One of the local wisdom in Indonesia is the skills in
concocting plants as traditional medicine. The relationship between botany (plants)
associated with ethnic (community groups) in various parts of the world is studied in
ethnobotanical science. The purpose of the research is to study the utilization of
Zingiberaceae plants by local people in Rupat Island, Bengkalis Regency including botanical
studies and ethnomedicine. The research was conducted from November 2020 to January
2021. The data was collected by interviewing 15 Practitioners of Traditional Medicine (POT)
who have information related to the utilization of the Zingiberaceae plants. Based on the
results of the interview, there were 16 species of Zingiberaceae plants used as the basic
ingredients of folk remedies. The highest Value of Informant Consensus Factor (Fic) is found
in the reproductive system disease category. Fidelity levels analysis shows that Curcuma
domestica is the most widely used plant by Traditional Medicine Practitioners in treating
diseases.
