Abstract

Composite is a combination of two or more different materials of its type to form a material with new properties. In this research, the raw material for making composites is natural rubber SIR 20 as a matrix, activated charcoal and cast sand as filler. Composite were made by varying the mass of filler (activated charcoal : cast sand) 100% : 0% (KA), 50% : 50% (KAP) and 0% : 100% (KP). The results obtained in this research showed that the highest value of tensile strength was on KA (0.4607 MPa), the highest value of compressive strength was on KP(12, 6625 MPa) and the highest value of density was shown by KP (0.8539 g mL-1). Analysis of color parameters, pH, TSS and TDS after filteration using the three composites variations of and two filtering variations, showed optimum results on 50% : 50% active charcoal composites : cast sand with a combination of simple-composite filter that can reduce color 89%, TSS 90% and TDS 64% and improved pH from 6,2 to 7,02
