Abstract

Bombay Duck fish (Harpodon nehereus) is one of the endemic fish in Dumai coastal area. The fish locally named as ‘Lomek’. This fish has high economic value and may be preserved existence. To support this, initial data is needed in the form of biological aspects of fisheries, especially on the pattern of growth and Gonad Somatic Index (GSI).The sex composition consisted of 67% male and 33% female. The pattern of growth the males was negatively allometric with a value of b = 2.36, whereas the female was positively allometric with a value of b = 3.29. Pattern of overall growth was negatively allometric with value b = 2.58. Gonad Somatic Index (GSI) in male fish ranged between 0.13% -12.09%, while female fish ranged from 0.15% -11.69%.
