Abstract
One of the causes of the petroleum energy crisis is the large number of old wells that are no longer producing and unoptimal of new wells that being explored because they haven’t in qualification as mature and feasible oil. The purpose of this research is to determine the maturity of oil samples of Bangko Block based on petroleum geochemical parameters ie Metilphenantren index (MPI). Crude oil samples from Bangko wells were fractionated by column chromatography resulting in hydrocarbon saturated then analyzed by gas chromatography (GC), whereas aromatic fraction was determined using GC-MS. The results of this study indicate that Bangko Block crude oil has a pretest ratio of 2.41, this indicates that the well of Bangko Block production settles in the lacustrine deposition environment under oxidation conditions. The value of methylpenantren parameter for MPI 1 was 0.812, MPI 2 was 0.917 and MPI 3 was 0.789, and the value of VRE was 0.887%, it shows that Bangko Block oil has reached maturity
