THE EFFECT OF UBP LIRIK CRUDE OIL ON THE GROWTH, DEFOLIATION AND BIOMASS OF (Rhizophora apiculata) MANGROVE IN PANGKALAN SESAI DUMAI

| dc.description.abstract | This recearch was done in October 2012-January 2013 to determine the growth ability of mangrove Rhizophora apiculata seedling contaminated by crude oil of UBP Lirik. Different concentrations of crude oil were added after the seedlings were expossed to acclimatization period of 2 months, and measurements were performed 5 times with 10 days intervals. Water quality measurements carried out 3 times on day 0, day 20, day 50 of observations. Crude oil doses were P0 (0.00 ml/cm2); P1 (0.05 ml/cm2), P2 (0.1 ml/cm2); P3 (0.5 ml/cm2) and P4 (1.0 ml/cm2). Additions of UBP Lirik crude oil with different concentrations to the mangrove seedlings R. apiculata provide significant influence on the number of leaves and plant height. Crude oil has no significant effect on stems diameter, defoliation, biomass and roots of mangrove seedlings. Based on the measurement of physical and chemical parameters in the study area such as temperature, salinity, pH and soil acidity it was suggested that those parameters were sufficient to support the growth of mangrove seedlings R. apiculata. | en_US |
