Abstract
Arthropods are the largest group of animal that inhabit the soil taking about
65%. Therefore Arthropods paly an important role in the ecosystem. Spiders have huge
diversity because they show adaptability to their environment. The purpose of this study
was to determine the diversity of spiders in the residential area of Simpang Baru
Pekanbaru and around the Arboretum forest of the Universitas Riau campus. This study
identified the pattern of spiders’ preference over environmental factors in the two type
areas. The total number of species obtained in this study was 24 species and 139
individuals consisting of eight families. Diversity Index in campus forest and residential
areas ranged from 2.7 to 2.9 and 2.0 to 2.2 respectively. In addition, the Evenness Index
Value in residential part and campus forest was from 0.77 to 0.95 and from 0.97 to 1.0,
respectively.
