Abstract
Primary dysmenorrhea is one of the most common gynecological problem in
adolescent girls. Some research claimed that exercise is an effective treatment for
primary dysmenorrhea. Therefore the main purpose of this study is to determine the
correlation between regular exercise and the event of primary dysmenorrhea. This
was a case control study of female students at SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru. Students
were separated in control (N=43) and case (N=43) group. The data from the 86
samples were taken from a questionnaire. The result of this study indicated that most
of respondents in case group (76.7%) have family history of dysmenorrhea. The most
severity of menstrual pain was mild pain (81.4%) and the rate of consultation with
doctor due to menstrual pain is 2.3%. The relation of regular exercise and the event
of primary dysmenorrhea was analysed using Chi square test. The result indicated
