Abstract
Miana plant (C. hybridus) (Lamiaceae family) which is widely known by the people as
an ornamental plant and traditional medicine. This study aims to isolate the chemical
compounds contained in maroon miana stem extracted using methanol as a solvent and
to analyze the antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. Extraction was carried out
with the maceration method using methanol as a solvent. The macerated extract was
partitioned with n-hexane and ethyl acetate as solvents. The crude extract of n-hexane
was separated using flash chromatography method. The secondary metabolite were
isolated from the n-hexane extract of the maroon miana stem were called CHM-H1
(180 mg) and CHM-H2 (60 mg), respectively. CHM-H1 and CHM-H2 are thought to be
similar to β-sitosterol and daucosterol compounds, respectively. Phytochemical test to
maroon miana stem indicated the presence of secondary metabolites of alkaloids,
terpenoids/saponins and phenolic groups. The antioxidant test of the n-hexane extract
showed that the n-hexane extract had an IC50 value of 378.35 μg/mL and as ascorbic acid
6.70 μg/mL. Ascorbic acid has an AAI value of 11.93 which is classified as very strong,
while the n-hexane extract has an AAI value of 0.21 which is classified as weak.
