Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the learning cycle model to
the mastery of concepts and basic skills of scientific work on biology learning class
VII SMP Negeri 20 Pekanbaru. This study was conducted in March-June 2013. This
is a type of quasi-experimental study with a sample of class VII

as control class and
class VII

as the experimental class. The parameters used in the study are the mastery
of concepts and students' basic skill of scientific work. To determine students'
mastery of concepts given in the form of pre test and post test while to learn the basic
skills of students of scientific work carried out by observations. Analysis was done by
descriptive analysis and inferential data by t-test. The results showed significant
differences between the experimental class concept mastery and control class (thit

the researched, learning cycle model is effective against the mastery of concepts and
