This study was carried out in March 2012 in the waters of Teluk Kabung of Padang City, in the Province of West Sumatra. It aimed to see the characteristic of sediment in the coastal waters of Teluk Kabung. Field survey method was applied where ten sites were chosen for sampling purposes. The sediment samples were sorted in the lab and its distribution was analyzed by cluster analysis. The result showed that the particle size of the sediments was dominated by sands that ranging from fine to medium sand. Three groups of cluster with different number of sites were detected. The first cluster consisted of four stations that characterized by medium power of flow of the sediment transport, unstable actions of wave and current speed, with sand type sediment. Similar figure showed by the second cluster even though both the wave and the current actions frequently changed, however, the changes were not significant. Meanwhile, the last cluster only consisted of one station with sandy coarse type sediment, high in power of flow of the sediment transport, and as well as in the wave action and the current speed.en_US
