Abstract

This classroom action research aims to testify the effectiveness of Guided Writing Procedure (GWP) to increase students’ ability in comprehending Content Subject Sociolinguistics. The subjects were all students of English Study program taking Sociolinguistics subject on Gasal semester 2008-2009 academic year. Before the treatment was conducted, the subjects were given pre-test and after the treatment, posttest was also held. The procedures carried out consist of two main components: diagnose students’ background knowledge and writing skills as well as the teaching of content materials and writing skill. The results of observation (57,80%) and mean score of test at cycle 1 (63,05) cannot fulfill the minimum criteria applied, 66. The action was continued at cycle 2 by reapplying GWP activities at cycle 1 and giving more motivation and support to be more active in doing GWP activities. In addition, special guidance was also provided outside class. There is an increase of observation and test result at cycle 2. The students’ ability in doing GWP activities becomes 68,25% and the mean score of test is 67,74. The result shows that the criteria applied has been achieved and this means that the GWP strategy is effective to increase students’ ability in comprehending content subject Sociolinguistics.
