Abstract
Disposable diapers are made of cotton containing cellulose and can be used for the
production of cellulase by solid state fermentation. Cellulase is an enzyme that can
hydrolyze the β-1,4 glicosidic of cellulose and produce glucose. Cellulase can be
produced by many microorganisms include endophytic bacteria Pseudomonas stutzeri
LBKURCC 54 and LBKURCC 59 at fermentation time of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 days.
The activity of cellulase was determined by the Nelson-Somogyi method. The results
showed that highest cellulase activity of LBKURCC 54 was occurred at the 40th day of
fermentation time (1.900 ± 0.346) x 10-3 U/mL, while the highest cellulose activity of
LBKURCC 59 was occurred at the 30th day of fermentation time (3.530 ± 3.415)
x 10-3U/mL.
