Abstract
Study on gut content of selais danau fish (Ompok hypophthalmus) at three stations
(Selembakan Palas, Flamboyan, Kota Garo) in Tapung Hilir river was conducted from
November 2012 to January 2013. The objective of this study was to know about the kinds
of selais danau fish food categorized as main food, supplement food and additional food in Tapung Hilir. The gut content was analized using the Index of Preponderance. The result revealed that the main food of selais Danau fish in Selembakan Palas station is Puntius sp (91%) and supplement food are Periplaneta sp (Arhtropoda) (4%), animal debris (3%) and the other Arhtropoda (3%). Selais danau fish in Flamboyan station eats Puntius sp (60%) as a main food, beside that it also eats Periplaneta sp (Arhtropoda) (24%) and animal debris
(14%) as supplement food. As an additional food it eats the other Arthropoda (2%). In Kota Garo station the main food is Periplaneta sp (Arhtropoda) (59%), supplement food is Puntius sp (37%) and additional food is animal debris (4%) and the other Arthropoda (0,25%). Male fishes at three stations have Puntius sp as the main food, and the female eat Puntius sp and Periplaneta sp as the main food. The different happens because of habitat
condition and energy demand that vary on male and female fishes.
