Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of health education using audiovisual media to increase knowledge and ability mother to care for the newborn. This research method uses quasi-experimental design with the implementation of health education using audiovisual media. The research was conducted at hospitals Arifin Achmad Pekanbaru the room is Camar 1 on 30 respondents, at 15 the experimental group and 15 control group. Measuring instrument used was a questionnaire with 15 questions about the knowledge, which was developed by researchers. The analysis is used univariate and bivariate analyzes with the t-test of dependent and independent. The results showed a significant increase in the knowledge and ability level newborn in the experimental group after health education p value < α (0.000 <0.05). Based on the results of this study are expected for hospitals to apply methods to improve knowledge and ability about level newborn care in to the mother section caesaria so that increased.
