Abstract
A study on histopathology of liver and kidney of Pangasius hypopthalmus that is
infected with Aeromonas hydrophila and treated with Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb has been
conducted on March-July 2012. This study aims to understand the histological structure of
the liver and kidney of the fish that is treated with C. xanthorrhiza extract. There were 3
treatments applied. The treated fishes were infected with A. hydrophila (0.1 ml of 109 of A.
hydrophila culture) and then were immerse in 3 different concentrations of C. xanthorrhiza
extract, they were T1 (0.2 g/l); T2 (0.4 g/l) and T3 (0.6 g/l) for 5 minutes/ day for a 2 weeks
period. The negative control were fishes that were not receive any treatment, while the
positive control were fishes that were infected with A. hydrophila, and were not treated with
C. xanthorrhiza extract. The liver showed vacuolar degeneration in the hepatocyte, necrosis,
hemorrhage and hipertrophy in the sinusoid. The kidney showed vacuolar degeneration in the
epithelium of renal tubulus, necrosis, haemorrhage and dilation in Bowman’s capsule. Based
on data obtained, it can be concluded that immersion of fish in C. xanthorrhiza extract is able to cure A. hydrophila infection on fish
