Abstract
Learning achievement is one important issue for student especially medical
student. One influencing factor to learning achievement was learning approach. The
purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of learning approach and
learning achievement in year 2009 Medical Students of Riau University. This
research used correlation study. The population was Medical Students of Riau
University in year 2009. The sample was 108 students with total sampling method.
Translated Study Process Questionnaire (SPQ) to Bahasa Indonesia used to measure
learning approach that one might be adopt, deep, surface or achieving approaches to
learning and GPA (Grade Point Avarage) used to measure learning achievement.
The result showed learning approach correlated significantly (p= 0.003; r=0.445) to
GPA and surface approach correlated negatively (p=0.001; r=-0.309), deep
positively (p=0.000; r=0.354) and also achieving positively (p=0.000; r=0.456) to
GPA. In conclusion there was a relationship between learning approach and learning
achievement in year 2009 Medical Students of Riau University.
