dc.description.abstractThe aim of this research is to determine the relationship between self-concept with the motivation of parents in caring for children with mental retardation. The design of this research is descriptive correlative with using cross sectional approach. The Samples of 62 parents of SDLB students in SLB Negeri Pembina Pekanbaru were taken by proportionate stratified random sampling. Measuring instrument are questionnaire that had been modified by Govender and Aisyah questionnaire. Analysis is used univariate and bivariate analysis using Spearman correlation test. The results showed that most respondents have self-concept score over 75 (74.2 %) and motivation score over 44 (80.6 %) in caring for children with mental retardation, and there is a significant relationship between self-concept and motivation of parents in care of mentally retarded child with p value = 0.00 < 0,05. Parents of student are expected to improve or maintain their self-concept that influence motivation in caring for children with mental retardation.en_US
