Abstract

ABSRACT Cases of stroke increase every year and stroke is the third highest cause of death after heart disease and cancer. The incidence of stroke increases with age and variety of risk factors. Some risk factors are found in stroke patients with hypertension and low HDL cholesterol that causes Atherosclerosis. The aim of this research was to know the levels of HDL cholesterol and blood pressure stroke of treated patients in Neurology Department Arifin Achmad General Hospotal of Riau Province. Retrospective descriptive study was conducted on stroke patients treated in 2011. The HDL cholesterol levels of patients were assessed using standard NCEP/ ATP III, then the patient's blood pressure at the time of initial entry Hospitals judged by standards issued by the JNC VII and grouped according to the needs of research. Of the 107 patients studied, hypertension was found in 97 patients (90.65%), and low HDL cholesterol was found in 66 patients (61.68% ). The combination of hypertension and low HDL cholesterol was found in 54.2% of cases that are most circumstances, low HDL cholesterol and normotension obtained in 7.47%, normal HDL cholesterol and hypertension was found to be 36.44%, and normal HDL cholesterol and normotension was found in 1.8%. The conclusion of this study is that the incidence of stroke was mostly found in patients with low HDL cholesterol levels and hypertension.
