Abstract
The objective of this experiment was to obtain manure substitution levels with decomposed sago waste
which suitable to sweet corn production. The experiment was carried out at experimental field of Faculty of
Agriculture, Riau University, from August 1998 to January 1999. The experiment was arranged in randomized
block design with single factor and three replications. Thirteen levels of sago waste substituted were treated :
100% manure as the control (P0), substituted 25% with sago waste that decomposed 4 weeks (P t), substituted
25% with sago waste that decomposed 6 weeks (P2), substituted 25% with sago waste that decomposed 8 weeks
(P3), substituted 50% with sago waste that decomposed 4 weeks (P4), substituted 50% with sago waste that
decomposed 6 weeks (P5), substituted 50% with sago waste that decomposed 8 weeks (P6), sibstituted 75% with
sago waste that decomposed 4 week (P7), substituted 75% with sago waste that decomposed 6 weeks (P8),
substituted 70% with sago waste that decomposed 8 weeks (P9), substituted 100% with sago waste that
decomposed 4 weeks (P10), substituted 100% with sago waste that decomposed 6 weeks (P11), substituted
100% with sago waste that decomposed 8 weeks (P12). The result showed untill 50% substituted with suitable
duration of decomposition, production of sweet corn not significantly different with the control. Qualitatively,
sago waste increased diameter of corn untill 75% substituted, and increased weight of 100 grains and length of
corn until 100% substituted
