| dc.description.abstract | This article deals with the changes in the habitat of the Petalangan Malay in the Pelalawan District, Riau, Indonesia. This article will describe and analyze the changes in the Petalangan habitat which came about as a result of the implementation of development programs by the government of Indonesia and of the Riau Province. It focuses on the aspects of communication and transportation, settlement patterns, demography, and livelihood. In the contemporary socioeconomic context of Indonesia and Malaysia, the phrase "the continuous struggle of human beings in their quest of achieving better quality of life", which is one of the objectives of this seminar, can be understood as "development."
