Abstract

Sweet potato (Ipomea batatas L.) belongs to Convolvulaceae family, and one of the main crop commodities in Indonesia. This plant poses high morphological variation with various cultivars, including Kidal and Antin. This study aimed to compare morphological characteristics of the two sweet potato cultivars (Kidal and Antin 3) from Pekanbaru, Riau. This study was contucted in Pekanbaru, Riau from October 2021 to January 2022. Sampling was carried out using exploration method. The result indicated that the morphological characters of Kidal and Antin cultivars vary on the characters of stem, leaf and tuber. The main characteristics that distinguished these two cultivars are color of young stems (Kidal is light purple, Antin 3 is dark purple); mature stems (Kidal is green, Antin 3 is purple); young leaves (Kidal is green, Antin 3 is purple); color of skin tuber (Kidal is red, Antin 3 is dark purple) and color of flesh tuber (Kidal is orange, Antin 3 is purple).
