The research was conducted in April 2013 in the former Tin Mining waters Riau archipelago Province. This study aims to determine the concentration of nitrate and phosphate and diatom abundance, to determine the relationship between the concentration of Nitrate, Phosphate and diatom abundance, the feasibility of former tin mining waters in Karimun Island as a floating net cage culture in terms of water quality parameters, especially nitrate and phosphate. Sampels were taken from 5 stations and each station was divided into 3 sampling point. The result of the study found 10 species of centric diatoms and 5 species pinnate diatoms. The highest abundance of diatom was found in Station 5 near the floating cages locations and residential areas (633,33 Ind/L), and the lowest was at Station 2 (316,67 Ind/L). The highest individual abundance was shown by Rhizosolenia delicatula, and then followed by Thalassiothrix longissima and Lauderia borealis, respectively. It was indicated that no dominan species was found in the waters. However, based on the results the area was categorized as area with middle level of contamination.en_US
