Abstract
An evaluation of suitable to crop cultivation based on land characteristics and benefit values were needed
to decision making, coordination, and control to minimize cost. The study was done in Bengkalis Distric, Riau.
The field survey was carried out on land unit, the land characteristics were evaluated by maximum limiting factors
method, and the benefits were calculated by return cost ratio. The results of research showed that it's peatlands
was about 82,129.73 hectars what moderately-marginally suitable to crop cultivation: (1) land unit d1 was 10,252.17
hectars and arranged to wetland rice; (2) land unit d2 was 61,780.49 hectars and arranged to food crops (upland
rice, maize, soybean, cassava, sweet potato, groundnut, and taro) and vegetables (green pepper, tomato, eggplant,
cucumber, garden bean, pea, kedney bean, spinach, leafy vegetable, bitter melon, mustard greens, four-side
bean, and pumpkin); (3) land unit d3 was 10,097.07 hectars and arranged to fruits (mango, durian, rambutan.
sirsak, avocado, lanseh totree, mangosteen, citrus, jackfruit, watemnelon, banana, bilimbi, papaya, and pineapple).
