Abstract
Physical and chemical characteristics of peat at the different physiography of
ecosystem must be considered for utilization, development, and management of
sustainable agriculture. This research is descriptive conducted in the city of Dumai
from physical and chemical character. This research using method of observation in
four district in the soil depth 0-50 cm. The result of the research showed peat located
in brackish ecosystem had higher pH, ash content, and organic C compared to the
one in marine ecosystem, except for bulkdensity which had higher score. Marine
peat’s color was brighter with high organic content. Brackish peat’s color contains
more clay so it was darker.
