Abstract
Alahan Panjang-Pasar Baru Road development plan connecting Solok Regency and
Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province. The road crosses the Tarusan Arau
Hilir Wildlife Sanctuary Area within the Bayang watershed. To anticipate the negative
impacts of road development on the Bayang Watershed, research is aimed at
analyzing the biophysical characteristics of the Bayang Watershed and its carrying
capacity and management efforts. The analysis was conducted by reviewing
documents and biophysical studies and collecting climate, debit and critical land
data. The results showed that very heavy erosion (9,682.34 ha) was in the upper and
middle watersheds. Potentially critical land is 33.4% of the watershed area, rather
critical land is identified as 17.6% and the location is spread upstream and middle of
the watershed. To minimize negative impacts, road construction must consider the
principles of sustainable road development called also with the green road that is
movement, ecology and community.
