Abstract

Many acacia plant grow in University of Riau campus, Panam, Pekanbaru as cover crops. It is necessary to cut the acacia branches as, it is one of some plants that is easy to fall, it resulted so many wastes from these plants, such as leaves and branches. The wastes can be used as activated charcoal. The acacia’s leaves were carbonized at 300oC in 30 minutes and 500oC for the branches in a hour, to get activated charcoal using 5% Na2CO3 as an activator. In this experiment, the activated charcoal was used as the adsorbent of lead and was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The characterization results showed that the activated charcoal acacia’s leaves was better than the branches. Both of the activated charcoal had been standarized based of SNI 06-3730-1995. However, for Iodium and Methylene blue the adsorption has not standarded of the activated charcoal. The adsorption efficiency of activated charcoal leaves and branches was higher than charcoal leaves and branches it self.
