Abstract

Water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms) is a aquatic plant that multiply very rapidly, causing problems in the waters. Water hyacinth contain a number of chemicals potentially for composting. Composting can be accelerated using bioactivator for example fungi. This study aims to test the ability of indigenous isolates cellulolytic and ligninolytic fungi from peat soils of Riau in making compost from water hyacinth. The second goals was to analyze the quality of water hyacinth compost. This research used a bioactivator which is a mixture of fungal isolates TT + PNE4 (S1), fungal isolates TT + PN6 (S2), and fungal isolates TT + PNE4 + PN6 (S3). A positive control contain EM4 (K1) while negative control (K0) were not treated with bioactivator. The quality of compost produced in each treatment is almost simillar and some of the characters was in accordance to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for compost. They contain 2.53%-2.65% N, 16.1%-17.5% C/N ratio, 0.85%-0.87% P, 5.68%-6.09% K, 3.3 x 107 cfu g-1 -11.4 x 107 cfu g-1 total population of microba cellulolytic, 3.6 x 104 cfu g-1-10.3 x 104 cfu g-1 ligninolytic fungi, 3.3 x 104 cfu g-1-11.5 x 104 cfu g-1 fungi and 1.3 x 108 cfu g-1-2.7 x 108 cfu g-1 bacterial.
