Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of mathematics beliefs of mathematics education
students and their achievement.. The sample consisted of 27 mathematics education students with the subject
Elementary Statistical. Data were collected using Mathematics Beliefs Questionnaire and test questions based
on a topic distribution variabel random. The data were analyzed descriptive statistics and inferensial statistics
using Pearson correlation and t-test. The findings showed that there was a moderate correlation between the
two variables. There were no significant differences in terms of mathematical beliefs of students but there is a
significant difference to student learning outcomes based on student ability. The components of mathematics
beliefs were divided into self beliefs in mathematics, belief in mathematics nature and beliefs in teaching and
learning of mathematics. Most students especially the high students have better beliefs in mathematics nature
than in the other three components. However the corelation of students' beliefs with achievemnt student was
0.487 and sig. 0.010. There was a significant relation between belief student and their achievement
