Abstract:
This research is classroom action research, which the aim is to completing the
result study of student’s ability in Chemistry I in use learning by problem method. The sample
respondents were first year students of chemistry study program, PMIPA FKIP UR that engaged
in this subject in academic year 2009/2010. Data of this research from evaluate and activity sheet
in each cycle of learning from student with criteria of students’ mastery learning is 75%. This
research doing in 3 cycles, in cycle 1 students’ mastery learning is 52%, cycle II is 62%, and
cycle III is 86%. So, the students’ mastery learning is taken in cycle III. The process of students’
mastery learning is; 1) teaching by group of work that consists of 5 or 6 person, 2) using reading
book of basic chemistry and students’ worksheet, 3) all member of group must be active, 4)
lecture explained the material and students’ worksheet, and 5) explaining the material that discuss
whether in group of work or classical
