Abstract

Based on the field observation of the children’s writing ability, it was found that they have low ability in this part. Besides, they also have difficulties along their learning process of numeracy. To illustrate, there were many children having less confidence about their own work that they tend to copy their friends’ work. Moreover, the teachers still used such dominating and unvaried method of teaching. Therefore, we need to use a media of tree counting based PAIKEM. This study aims at investigating the effect of Using Tree Counting Media Based PAIKEM toward children numeracy skill of Early Childhood Aged 5-6 Years at TK Education 21 Kulim Pekanbaru. The sample used in this study was 18 children. This research used observation as the data collection technique. The writer used t-test to analyze the data with SPSS 17. The hypothesis of this research was that there is a significant influence on children numeracy skill after using the tree counting media based PAIKEM in teaching and learning. It can be seen from the analysis of data obtained t = -12.11, p = 0.000. Since p <0.05, it can be concluded that there are significant differences in numeracy skill of the children after being taught using the tree counting media based PAIKEM. As a result, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It means that there is a significant difference in children numeracy skill between before and after the experiment by using tree counting media based PAIKEM. Based on the result of data analysis, it was obtained that the use of tree counting media based PAIKEM affected to children’s numeracy skill in 53.03%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of tree counting media based PAIKEM influences children’s numeracy skill.
