Abstract:
Dye waste has a negative impact on health and the environment, so it must be treated
before being discharged into the environment. The Fenton method is an effective
method for the degradation of dyes into environmentally friendly compounds. In this
study, the synthesis of the MnO2/fly ash composite was carried out using the
precipitation method. MnO2 was synthesized by mixing together KMnO4 and glucose
in a ratio (3:1) which was then composited with 15% fly ash. The results of the XRD
characterization showed that the type of MnO2 in the MnO2/fly ash composite was
cryptomelane. The MnO2/fly ash composite was then applied for the degradation of
methylene blue dye. Methylene blue degradation at a volume concentration of 1 mL
H2O2, 10 mg composite and 50 ppm methylene blue, was able to degrade methylene
blue 63,58 % in 120 minutes.
