Abstract:
Curcumin is a phenolic compound found in the rhizome of turmeric (Curcuma longa L.)
Curcumin biological activity as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, chemopreventive and
chemotherapy. This study aims to synthesize and identify and carry out toxicity tests for
the compound 1-Benzyl-3 - ((E) -4-Klorobenziliden) -5 - ((E) -4 Metoxybenziliden)
Piperidin-4-On (CAS-4OMe-4Cl). Asymmetric curcumin compound synthesized by
microwave irradiation takes place by means of an aldol condensation reaction between 1-
benzyl-4-piperidone, 4-chlorobenzaldehyde and 4-methoxybenzaldehyde using sodium
hydroxide catalyst in ethanol solvent. The purity of the compounds was determined by
TLC test, melting point and HPLC. Identification of the structure of the CAS-4OMe-4Cl
compound using UV, FTIR, NMR, and HRMS spectroscopy analysis. The yield obtained
from the synthesis of CAS-4OMe-4Cl compound was 11.8%. The toxicity of CAS-
4OMe-4Cl compound was tested by the BSLT method using shrimp larvae (Artemia
salina Leach). The test results showed that the CAS-4OMe-4Cl compound was toxic with
a value of LC50 = 3.46 μg / mL
