Abstract:
Azin is a compound produced from the condensation reaction of the carbonyl compound
molecule with hydrazine, which has the structure R1R2C=NN=CR1R2. The two imine
bonds that make up the structure of the azine make this compound the most
important in the development of new medicines which is known to have diverse biological
activities such as antibacterial, antimicrobial, antitumor and antifungal. In this research,
synthesis of azin 4-((1E)-((E)-2-(( 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyll )methylidene )hydrazin-
1-ylidene )-2-methoxyphenol (A-4OH-3OMe) and toxicity testing of these coumpound.
Azine compound are synthesis from an intermediete condensation reaction of vanilin and
hidrazine hydrate catalyzed by acetic acid using a microwave irradiation with 180 Watt.
The purity of the compound was determined using by TLC test, melting point
measurement, and HPLC analysis. The structure of the synthesized compound was
confirmed through UV and FTIR spectroscopic analysis. The results of this research
were the A-4OH-3OMe compound successfully synthesized with a 54,87% yield. The
toxicity test for A-4OH-3OMe compound was determined by the BSLT method using
shrimp larvae (Arthemia Salina Leach). LC50 value of compounds A-4OH-3OMe is 39,80
μg/mL.Concluded that the compound A-4OH-3OMe is toxic and further pharmacological
tests can be carried out.
