Abstract:
Medang lendir (Lisea glutinosa) is a plant in the Lauraceae family which is commonly
found in tropical and sub-tropical regions. This plant is widely used as traditional
medicine and its bark is used to repel mosquitoes by burning it. This study aims to
isolate the bark of medang lendir and test the toxicity activity of the isolated
compounds. A secondary metabolite (called LG-H-03) has been isolated from the bark
by the chromatotron method from combined fraction of 4 and 5 of n-hexane extracts.
The compound was characterized by UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy, which showed
the presence of the OH, aliphatic C-H, methyl (CH3), C=O, C=C, and C-O (alcohol)
groups. Melting point obtained was 118-120oC. Toxicity test showed that LG-H-03 was
non-toxic with LC50 value 367 ppm.
