Item A Study On The Ability Of The Second Year Students Of Sma Al-Huda Pekanbaru In Selecting Appropriate Relative Pronouns(2013-01-04) ErniA STUDY ON THE ABILITY OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS OF SMA Al-HUDA PEKANBARU IN SELECTING APPROPRIATE RELATIVE PRONOUNS Erni, Effendy Gultom, Supriusman English Study Program Language And Art Department Teachers Training And Education Faculty University of Riau Abstract The general objective of this study is to find out the ability of the second year students in selecting appropriate relative pronouns. This research was conducted at SMA Al-Huda Pekanbaru in July 2012 in the Academic year of 2012/2013. The sample of the research is 27 students of IPA class. The data were collected by using multiplechoice questions. The writer conducted a try out in another class before the test was given. There are 10 items being revised after doing the try out. 4 items being revised because their facility value scores are lower than 0,30 (difficult), and 6 items being revised because their facility value scores are higher than 0,70 (easy). The result of this study shows that most of the students (62,97%) can select appropriate relative pronoun “when”. However, some students (29,63%) still find difficulty to select appropriate relative pronoun “whose”. So, it may be concluded that the students’ ability is still in mediocre level with the mean score of 59,81.Item A Study On The Ability Of The Second Year Students Of Sman 1 Mandau Duri In Analyzing Narrative Texts(2013-02-05) Citra, A.AA STUDY ON THE ABILITY OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 MANDAU DURI IN ANALYZING NARRATIVE TEXTS Ariska, Effendy Gultom, Supriusman English Study Program Language And Art Department Teachers Training And Education Faculty University of Riau Abstract: The General objective of this study is to know the ability of the second year students of SMAN 1 Mandau Duri in analyzing narrative texts. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Mandau Duri in September 2012. It is located on Jalan Komplek Pendidikan CPI Sebanga Duri. The sample of the research was 47 students of the second year students of SMAN 1 Mandau Duri. The data were collected by using multiple-choice questions. The writer conducted a try out in another class before the test was given. There are 10 items being revised after doing the try out. 1 item being revised because their facility value scores are lower than 0,30 (difficult), and 9 items being revised because their facility value scores are higher than 0,70 (easy). Among 47 students, 5 students (10.64%) were in excellent level, 28 students 59.58(%) were in good level, 11 students (23.40%) were in mediocre level, 3 students (6.38%) were in poor level and no students was in very poor level. The mean score of the whole students in analyzing narrative texts is 66.80. In conclusion, the ability of the second year students of SMAN 1 Mandau Duri in analyzing narrative texts was good level. Since the research dealt with analyzing narrative texts.Item A Study On The Second Year Students’ability Of Smpn 1 Cerenti In Reading Comprehension(2013-06-24) Mailisa, RezkaThis was a descriptive research. The specific objective of this research was to find out the ability of the second year students of SMPN 1 Cerenti in reading comprehension. The research was conducted in the academic year of 2012 / 2013 at SMPN 1 Cerenti. It is located on Jalan Raya Cerenti. The data of this research was collected from March to April 2013. In this study, the researcher took the sample by using cluster sampling. Before the test was administered to the students, the researcher did a try out to the 30 students of VIII5 class to find out the validity and reliability of the test. After validating the instrument, the real test was administered to the students. The subjects of this research were 30 students of class VIII5. After collecting the data, the researcher analyzed the result to find out the ability of the second year students of SMPN 1 Cerenti in reading comprehension. The ability of the students was analyzed trough five components: finding main ideas, finding factual information, finding the meaning of vocabulary in context, identifying references, and identifying inferences.Item The Use Of Jigsaw Iii Method To Improve The Ability Of The Second Year Students Of SMPN 20 Pekanbaru In Writing Descriptive Texts(2013-01-09) Muwary, E.MTHE USE OF JIGSAW III METHOD TO IMPROVE THE ABILITY OF THE SECOND YEAR STUDENTS OF SMPN 20 PEKANBARU IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXTS Eldinanda Mula Nuwary Student of English Language Education Department Faculty of Teacher’s Training and Education Riau University Abstract This study aimed to explore whether Jigsaw III method could improve the ability of the second year students of SMPN 20 Pekanbaru in writing descriptive text. The subjects were 40 students from class VIII.6 at SMPN 20 Pekanbaru selected through the result of small survey. This study was classroom action research which was divided into two cycles, in which every cycle consisted of four stages which were planning, action, observation and reflection. In this research ‘pre-test and post-test were given including a set of observation sheets and field notes used to gain the record of the classroom activity during doing the treatments. Treatments were designed for three meetings in each cycle. The findings of the study indicated that a cooperative learning that focused on Jigsaw III method had improvement to the students’ ability in which there were 20 students or 50% 0f the students could achieve the standard minimum criteria of achievement (KKM) with average was about 70.36. In addition, the percentage of students’ activities was also improved from the first to the last meetings. Moreover, the result of observation sheets and field notes showed a positive behaviour in a process of learning and it also helped students improve their writing ability and more active in learning process.Item The Use Of Retelling Technique In Procedure Text To Improve Speaking Ability Of The First Year Students Of Mts Muhammadiyah 02 Pekanbaru(2013-02-15) Ulfa, FadhyllahThe aim of the study is to find out the effectiveness of retelling technique in improving students‟ speaking ability and to know how far this strategy can be used in improving the speaking ability of the students. The design of this paper is Classroom Action Research. The writer investigated the first level students of MTs Muhammadiyah 02 Pekanbaru in using of retelling technique in procedure text. The data of students‟ speaking were analyzed to see the progress after giving four-time treatments. The result revealed that the speaking ability of the students increased in some areas as shown by the improvements on their vocabulary and comprehensibility. After giving post-test at the end of the cycle, the writer found that there was an increasing on students‟ ability in speaking where the average score was 45.96 in pre-test with no students who reached the KKM (67) to 67.73. In post-test, 23 students or 76.67% of them could reach the KKM (67). In the treatment, the researcher found that 25 students reached average score. It means that 83.33% of them were interested in joining the lesson.
