Item ASKING QUESTIONS IN TEACHING ENGLISH(2014-02-06) SupriusmanAsking questions in teaching learning process in the classroom or outside classroom is one of the basic skills ofteaching that teachers should use. The questions used vary from one teacher to others depending on their objectives and competence, question levels, and tlpes of questions used in asking learners. This paper describes the definition ofquestion, types ofquestions, teachers' objectives in asking questions, and question levels used by the teachers. This study used library research in which various references such as books, journals and dictionary were used to discuss this topic. It is expected that this paper is useful for teachers especially English teachers "Item EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT IN ELT(2014-02-06) SupriusmanConfusion in understanding the terms of 'evaluation' and 'assessment' by the majority of teachers and learners is inevitable. Therefore, a clear explanation needs to be given to overcome the problem, since these two terms are the main duties of every teacher as stated in the teachers and lecturers law No. 14,2005. It is stated in the law that a teacher is a professional teaching staff whose main duties are to educate, to teach, to guide, to direct, to train, to evaluate, and to assess learners of formal education at the levels of primary education and secondary education, including early childhood education. Besides, assessment is one of the contextual teaching and learning (CTL) components that a teacher does in teaching leaming process. Some other terms that need to be described il order to possess good understanding on evaluation and assessment are 'measurement' and 'test'. Some differences of traditional assessment and altemative assessment are also discussed in this paper. In addition, the characteristics ofassessment are also introduced to get clear description about this term. It is also mentioned the importance of evaluation carried out in teaching and learning language skills which include productive and receptive skills.Item IMPROVING ENGLISH TEACHERS CLASROOM LANGUAGE IN TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS(2014-02-06) SupriusmanDalam proses pembelajaran. guru bahasa Inggris diharapkan mengajar siswanya menggunakan bahasa Inggris dari awal hingga akhir pelajaran. Namun demikian mereka mengalami kesulitan untuk menyampaikan ungkapan-ungkapan dalam bahasa Inggris. Makalah ini memberikan solusi untuk membantu para guru bahasa Inggris untuk menggunakan ungkapan-ungkapan yang dapat digunakan di dalarn kelas ketika proses pembelajaran berlansung. Ungkapan-ungkapan yang digunakan ini diharapkan dapat meningkatan keterampilan dasar mengajar y'ang meliputi keterampilan membuka dan menutup pelajaran. keterampilan befianya. keterampilan menjelaskan, keterampilan memberikan penguatan, keterampilan mengadakan variasi, dan keterampilan mengelola kelas. Kajian pustaka yang berhubungan dengan topik ini digunakan untttk membahas topic-topik yang relevan. Terakhir, topik ini diharapkan bermanfaat dan dapat membantu meningkatkan prol-esi dan qualifikasi guru bahasa Inggris. Dengan katzr lain. mereka diharapkan menjadi guru yang prof'essional dan berkualitas sehingga akan menghasilkan tamatan yang berkualitas dari sekolah dimana para guru tersebut mengajar.Item MEASUREMENT AND ASSESSMENT IN WRITING SKILL(2014-02-06) SupriusmanMeasurement and assessment are two key words which have a very important role to play to help teachers indicate whether or not students have been successful in teaching and learning process. Both measurement and assessment have different characteristics. Assessment of students' language skill can be lsrown when measurement has been conducted. According to the teachers and lecfurers law No. 74,2005, one of main duties of professional teachers is the ability of the teachers to assess their students. However, to assess students objectively needs adequate experience, understanding, knowledge and skill on assessment to avoid and reduce subjectivity in assessing receptive and productive skills, in particular writing skill. This paper describes how to assess writing skill, definitions of measurement and assessment, the characteristics of measurement and assessment, the purposes of assessment. Two types of assessment; traditional and alternative assessment are also described to increase especially teachers' insight in this topic.Item USEFUL EXPRESSIONS OF CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING(2014-02-06) SupriusmanClassroom managernent skill is one of the basic skills of teaching that should be implernented in teaching learnipg process by all teachers in pafticular, English teachers. By having theoretical knowledge, teachers are expected to have ability how to solve problerns in the classrooln such as how to handle Llncooperative students. how to solve students' reluctance to talk, and how to help studettts understand the agclio tract, and so on. Besides that, teachers are expected to teach their students in English, however, they have problems and difficulties in giving instructions, giving commands, asklng questions, explaining, and interaction. This paper is intended to help English teachers improve their it itt in managing classroorn through E,nglish expressions. Furthennore, this paper describes the definition of classroom lmanagement, two main components of classroom management, what important points to take into account in classroom management, and some useful expressions that can be used when English teachers manage their classroom in teaching English.
