Abstract
The measurement of the magnetic susceptibility and composition of magnetic particles
from the natural sand of the Rokan River in Riau Province has been done. Sand samples were
taken at 5 different points with a distance of 500 meters from each point. The sample taken at
each point has a mass of 1 kg. The samples were dried in the sun ray before separation between
magnetic particles and non-magnetic particles using Iron Sand Separator (ISS), this result is
called ISS product. The ISS product was milled with different milling tube rotational speeds
namely 100, 150 and 200 rpm with iron balls that has 1.5 centimeters in diameter. The product
obtained from the ball milling then its magnetic and non magnetic particles was separated using
Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeb) magnet, this result is called ball milling product (BM product).
The results of this research indicate that the magnetic susceptibility of ISS and BM product have
values (4,601.814-10,930.771) and (6,848.631-33,123.550) . The composition of
the elements was identified using X-ray fluorescence (XRF). XRF identification showed
magnetic elements such as Fe increased from 13.777% to 27.064%, while non magnetic elements
such as Si decreased from 58.401% to 42.920%.
