Abstract
A study aimed to determine the type and abundance of phytoplankton in the village pond Sialang Buah conducted in February 2013. There are four stations with 3 point sampling at each station. Samples were taken 3 times, once/week samples were taken 3 times, for 3 weeks and they were analyzed in the Laboratory of Marine Productivity Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences University of Riau.
Result shown that the phytoplankton obtained were consist of 28 species, of which 4 class Bacillariophyceae (19 species), Chlorophyceae (3 types), Cyanophyceae (5 species), and Euglenophyceae (1 species). The average abundance of phytoplankton is between 878-6075 cells / l. Phytoplankton are the most common type of Pleurosigma angulatum (1077 cells / l, Bacillariophyceae). Diversity index (H ') was 1.94 to 3.05, uniformity index (E) was 0.83 to 0.92 and dominance index (C) is 0.10 to 1.10. General water quality parameters are as follows: temperature: 28-29 0C, pH: 7, brightness: 30-50 cm, DO: 2.17 to 6 mg / l, CO2: 40 to 59.9 mg / l, Nitrate : 0.000 to 0.006 mg / l and phosphate from 0.004 to 0.040 mg / l. Based on the abundance of phytoplankton, Pond Village Sialang Buah can be categorized as oligotrophic Pond.
