Abstract
The research was conducted in Pekanbaru city of Riau Province, where the
phenomena that occur in the city of Pekanbaru is a graduate of the college would
prefer to be an entrepreneur, although there are job opportunities for them to
become a private sector employee or civil servant. Where they exist who started
his business career since attending college and after completion of college. Thus
the aim of this study was to determine how the characteristics of an
entrepreneurial university graduates and to find out what motivated college
graduates into entrepreneurs.
The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method to
prioritize the results of interviews and field observations. The theory used is
David Mc.Clelland theory of achievement motivation.
Based on this study that the characteristics of an entrepreneurial university
graduates an average age of 34 years to 42 years with over 10 years of business
experience, the income they earn in any month more than Rp. 5.000.000, - and
entrepreneurs is their main occupation. And who become motivated college
graduates to become entrepreneurs is because of the need for achievement
motivation is to achieve success in a career in entrepreneurship, the need for
power that wants to be a leader who is able to expand its business and the need for
affiliation or membership who want to petrify economy family members.
