This research was conducted from October until November 2012 at Soil and Water Quality Management Laboratory Fisheries and Marine Science Faculty of Riau University. Aim of this research was to investigate the best doses of CaCO3 liming to phytoplankton abundance. The method used was an experimental method using a complete randomly design with one factor, five treatments and three replications. Lime doses level of CaCO3 applied were : P0 (0 g/m2), P1 (6,67 g/m2), P2 (56,00 g/m2), P3 (112,00 g/m2) and P4 (168,00 g/m2). The results showed that there were 15 species of phytoplankton invented in the research consist of 8 species of Chlorophyceae, 4 species of Cyanophyceae, and 3 species of Bacillariophyceae respectively. The first peak abundance population was reached by P1 (6,67 g/m2) with phytoplankton abundance was 17.500 cells/l at 14th day, whereas the second peak abundance population was reached by P1 (6,67 g/m2) with phytoplankton abundance was 18.333 cells/l at 22th day. The temperature of water 26-350C, turbidity 4,57-47,00 NTU, pH of water (5,7-7,7), DO 2,87-3,84 mg/l, and nitrate concentration of water 0,45-2,07 mg/l.en_US
